Summer Fun!

This year is the 100th Year of Scouting, so for the 24th of July parade Richard marched in the parade with as many scouts as they could get to be in the parade. Richard is the District Commissioner for this area so he had the privilege to lead them. He took his neat walking staff with the scout shoe on the bottom that many of you have seen. It's pretty neat with all his carvings in it of all his positions he has held in scouting. Richard is really enjoying his calling.

We had our Millett Reunion this year at my sister's Patsy's cabin up by Mirror Lake. We had so much fun with all our children there. Some of the activities we did were to play games with the kids.This one was especially fun for them because they all had cards and when their number was drawn they got to pick a present from the center of the room. After all the presents were taken then they got to steal a present from someone else. The kids were hiding the ones they didn't want anyone to take from them. It was all pretty funny. I had to help Cortnie since she doesn't read yet. They loved this game.

We also went to Mirror Lake fishing and canoeing but the weather didn't cooperate with us and we got rained on and a little hail also. They did catch some fish and the kids loved the canoe rides.

We had a real fun time doing all these activities. One that we always do is our "Whirley Pop" contest. I don't have any pictures of this right now but I will try and post some later. We always have some really good recipes and we hope to make a whirley pop cookbook. Jennie and John won this year and were able to take home the coveted trophy. Their recipe was Baby Ruth popcorn. Boy was it yummy!!!

We had a special evening where we let helium balloons with glow sticks in them go in the night sky. We wrote something about Dustin on the strings before letting them go. We cryed together and sang "Families Can Be Together Forever" as we watched the balloons go up and then disappear. We will forever miss our brother,son,husband and father.

The reunion is always a time we can be together and make memories.We appreciate all the time and effort that Jennie and John put into it to make it a memorable year.

I haven't blogged in a long time because we have been so busy. It has been one event after another. I have been trying to collect pictures of Dustin and so thought that I would write a few memories of a few pics that I have of him. Dustin was a very Happy child and I would take him down to J.C. Penny's to get milestone pictures taken of him. It wasn't like it is now, where you took tons of pictures of your kids with your own camera. There weren't tons of cute clothes that you could buy for little boys, mostly little jeans or cordoroys with a T-shirt. I thought this outfit was just so cute and I also bought some little leather black and white oxfords at Ashton's that he wore alot with his suits for church.

Dustin was always dressed in a suit for church. I guess that was from my upbringing. Mom always had a dressed to the hilt for church or special occasions. I found this cute suit coat for Dustin for Easter and was so excited when I found the exact material that I could make his vest to match. I was also excited to find a yellow shirt to go with it and then made the bow tie to finish off the outfit. He also had little black patend leather shoes that I loved. He was a show stopper on Easter for sure.

I had to include this picture because this suit was made by his great-grandmother Bird. Infact it was his first suit. She sewed it on her treadle sewing machine! I don't think my grandmother ever had an electric one. I was so fortunate to be able to get that same machine when my mother passed away.

This picture was taken at Split Mountain at the boat ramp. I had bought this hat that was red, yellow, and blue striped. He loved wearing it and his "I Hope They Call Me On A Mission" shirt. Our good friends the Rosanhans wanted to take Dustin and Allisha on a hike at Split so away they went. Our neighbors loved the kids and took them alot to give us a break. They only had 2 daughters of their own who were alot older so they were good babysitters as well. They took some great pics of the kids and gave them to us. Such a little man...don't you think?I had to put this picture of my dad and Dustin. He was always playing little games with the kids. On this occasion they were playing piano on the counter top. The music they played was always a cute tune that Dad made up.
Here are my three handsome guys. I guess I should tell about Dustin and the fact that when I was pregnant with Garrett that he was going to run away if I didn't have a boy. He was Serious!! I told him that it wouldn't matter anyway because they would be 12 years apart and it wouldn't matter to him but he insisted. When Garrett was born it was like Christmas to him. He finally had a brother after 5 girls!! He was always very attentive to both boys and played with them alot. We always had to have the "boys" picture taken together. Here are a few more.

This is just one of our trips to my sister's farm. they loved petting the new calves or riding the 4-wheelers or on this occasion, Dad took the kids for a motorcycle ride. Many good times were had on the farm.Who could forget the permed hair!! Just one of those phases in life, I guess. He still looked handsome and loved Scouting. He has quite a collection of badges and eventually got his Eagle.

I had to put this one for Garrett! When my brother got home from his mission in Mexico he brought these hats with him. We had to try them on the kids, so Dustin had his picture taken. Look familiar, Garrett?
The next one is the HUGE snowman that we built the first Thanksgiving Dustin was in Japan. We dressed him up and called the snowman Dustin and had our pictures taken with him. Garrett loved this and even donated his shaps for the occasion.

Many happy Memories were made with Dustin through his lifetime and these are just a few. We are so blessed to have him in our family. We love you and will miss you!!

Obituary for Dustin Calvin Millett

2951 Great Plains Drive Grand Junction, Colorado

Dustin Calvin Millett was born on March 13, 1978 in Payson, Utah to Richard C. and Georgia R. Millett of Vernal, Utah. Dustin passed away on May 5, 2010 due to a vehicle accident. He was 32 years old. A viewing was held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel. His funeral was conducted at the Grand Junction 11 Ward Chapel on May 8, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service and internment was held in Vernal, Utah at 4:00 p.m. at the Rock Point Cemetery.

He worked as a Floor Hand on a Drilling Rig Crew in North Dakota for Precision Drilling. Previously he worked for Milts Ace Hardware and Coca Cola Bottling Co.

He has lived in Grand Junction for the past 4 years.

He is survived by his wife Ashley McKeachnie Millett, daughter- Mariko Ann, son – Kai Lin, son – Logan Dustin, and daughter Cortnie LaDawn of Grand Junction. His parents, Richard C. and Georgia R. Millett. His sisters Allisha Renee Hughes (John) of Green River, Utah; Cassandra Lynn Tenney (Reed) of Syracuse, Utah; Jennie Marie Pace (John) of Ogden, Utah; Adrienne Calleen Rowley (Justin) of Vernal , Utah; Nichole Annette Merrell (Justin) of Grand Junction, Colorado, Brothers – Garrett Stern Millett – Vernal, Utah (Mexico Tijauana Mission); and Jordan Merrill Millett of Vernal, Utah.

He graduated from Uintah High School and received a Bachelors of Business Administration degree from Utah State University.

He married Ashley Ann McKeachnie on July 7, 2000 in the Vernal Utah Temple. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served an LDS Mission in the Nagoya, Japan Mission. He was an Eagle Scout.

He loved watching basketball, football, BYU Sports, Utah Jazz Basketball, and playing computer games. His favorite loves were playing with his children and going on dates with his wife.

Callahan Edfast Mortuary of Grand Junction, Colorado and Blackburn Thompson Mortuary of Vernal, Utah assisted with the arrangements.

Mexicali

Garrett is currently in Mexicali and he reports that he is sweating buckets already. Garrett is currently with his companion Elder Moreno. Garrett is really enjoying his companion and they work hard together. Garrett reports that he got five people to church this last week and has some possible baptisms. Garrett has also reported that he has survived 2500 earthquakes in the past few weeks so he is becoming very used to earthquakes. Scary!!! We love hearing about Garrett and all that he is doing down in Mexicali. We are glad that he is safe an doing well. We love you Garrett. This picture is of Garretts Zone.

ONE Year Down!

Garrettt was made Senior Companion and got transfered to Mexicali Mexico... the second hottest place in the world. He will have fun opening up a new area and also have a bit of shock becasue he had it pretty good in rosiarita becasue it was more modern there. I know that Mexicali is smaller and the apartments there are really simple, made of cinderblocks and cememt floors and lots of border patrols and check points to go through. No more Walk-Marts and Cosco's for him. I am excited to get his email this next week to see how it is going.

Garrett sent these pictures to us this week and I thought that I would share them with you. This first picture is of the beach in Rosarito just before he got transfered. Garrett stated "that he was on the beach not in the water" we are not sure what that really means but hey it's garrett. In the backgound of the first picture you can see a pier. Garrett mentioned that the elders all got to go to the pier for an activity...which is why we got the picture.

The other pictures that garrett sent were of the burning of his shirt for his YEAR MARK! YEA! I cant believe that he has been out a year. On the frount of his shirt Garrett drew a tie and on the back it is a car. And the third one is the actual burning of the shirt. We are so proud of Garrett and all that he has accomplished and what he will continue to accomplish the last year of his mission. We love him and will keep everyone updateded on how Garrett is doing.

Garrett emailed us this last week and he recently got a new compaion Elder Ramirez Jorge. Garrett also sent some pictures of some other missionaries and some water/mud that he has been talking about with all the rain that they have recieved. Does not look like fun. Garrett informed us that he recently moved to an other house about a block away from the other one and he was excited because they finally we have a closet in the house becasue they didnt have one before. Garrett also informed us that he will hopefully have a baptism this next week. They are trying to get some couples married so that they can be baptized. They seem to have a lot of problems with people who dont want to get married. We are glad that Garrett is doing well, and we love to hear about his struggles and successes. We love you Garrett, keep up the good work.

Leah's Blessing!

Today we blessed our 16th grandchild. It was a special day for us. Adrienne and Justin wanted to bless Leah today so that Justin's twin brother could also bless their baby on the same day. Saved travel for his parents. We had Nichole and Justin come from Grand Junction to be with them. Others were here for Christmas so were unable to come back for the blessing. We enjoyed those who came. We had a luncheon at our home because Adrienne's apartment is too small. Even with those who came, we had a housefull.

Justin did a great job and Leah looked so sweet in her little white dress. What a special day!!

The run-in with the Snow Plow!!!

Can we say SNOW!!! I can not believe how much we have gotten in such a short time...Jordan and Richard were out shoveling the driveway and had just gotten it all done when along came the snowplow and buried the driveway with 3 feet of new snow. Needless to say they were both alittle discussed about it and so they started to shovel again when they almost finished and the plow came by again and buried them again. I think it took them about an hour to get the driveway shoveled. It was a REAL experience but not an exciting one. I thought it was funny so decided to take a few pictures.

On our first day of snow, Jordan went to early morning Seminary and got to school just fine, this being the first time he has driven in snow since he got his license, but hit a slick spot going into the parking lot at school and hit the post. Not a fun experience since this is his only mode of transportation. It took out the right headlight and the fender had to be pushed out to drive it home. Needless to say he's on foot at the moment and now mom has become his taxi!! I hope it gets fixed soon but I guess replacing the fender it the expensive part, so we will see. He might be on foot till after Christmas vacation.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARRETT

We celebrated Garrett's birthday on the 24th with cake and icecream. Garrett is 20 today!! We thought since he was on a mission that we would celebrate without him and send him pic's! It was great fun and Adrienne and Justin celebrated with us!! Happy Birthday Garrett! Love ya

For Thanksgiving we went to Patsy's and Larry's house! We really had an enjoyable time with them. While we were there we went to Temple Square to see the Christmas lights. It was warm this year compared to other years, I guess because we didn't have any snow! The lights were still beautiful. We found among all the Nativities, one from Japan! It was so cute. We took a picture of it but don't know if you can see it very well. We also tried to find a luminary from Mexico for Garrett but couldn't find one. There were millions of them lighting the pathways. I'm sure there was one there, we just didn't see it. At the top of the Joseph Smith building we saw a Nutcracker that we had to have our picture taken with. Jordan wouldn't cooperate with me...he kept sticking out his tongue!

One morning at Patsy's we decided to take a ride in the paddle boat behind her house. There wasn't much ice so we thought it would be OK. To our surprize, when we tried to go out of the area, the paddle boat wouldn't break through the ice so we had to just do a ride in a small circle. Jordan enjoyed it anyway. The ice didn't look that thick at first. After that we helped Larry put the boat away for the winter..guess we'll have to go take a ride come summer.

While at Patsy's we did alittle Geo-Caching! They are into it big time. We looked up some finds in Tooele. We didn't do to bad...we found 3 out of the 5 we went looking for. Our last one was in a street sign. The clues for them are always interesting. It was a fun time!

Jordan broke his finger playing church basketball. The second time in three years! I'm almost ready to restrict him. you can't see it in this picture but he has a bone chip on his knuckle so it's all black and blue. He is in a splint for another 8 weeks till it heals. Guess that is it for basketball for this year. In the ER the doctor told us that Church basketball is rated #6 on the list for the most injuries. Don't know where he got that info from. Jordan had to take a math test with his hand in a full arm splint for the last day of the tri, which was Friday. The accident happened on Thursday! Not Fun !!

Garrett in Rosarito

These pictures are of Garrett ...They went to Tijuana and had lunch with the Sister Missionaries. I think these burritos are tooooo big!! They go to Tijuana for District Meetings. These other pictures are ones that Garrett sent and thought you would enjoy seeing them. The one is of his companion playing the rubic cube (hey Jennie). I guess that is one game they can play. Garrett said his companion showed him how to solve it in three days. Don't know the names of any people in the pictures so maybe next time I can tell you. Garrett didn't say!

Garrett recently sent some pictures, so we thought that we would share them with you. this first picture is one that Garrett sent Jordan. I guess that he was teaching an invesigator that had some pretty cool cars...and you know how Garrett loves his cars!

These next two pictures are of Garrett's newest baptism in the ocean.

This Last picture is of a power pole in the poor section of town. It is pretty funny how all the poor hook up there own lines to the poles. Justin reports that is how it is in most south american countries. Every so often the power companies will go around and unhook all the lines. After they leave all the people will come and rehook up all the lines to recieve free power.

Our pumpkins that we carved for Halloween that we got from our adventure in Ogden with the grandkids. My witch that dad bought me at Witches Night Out. My cute treat bags that I made for my grandkids for Halloween. They turned out sooooooo cute. Then of course the pic's of us at the hospital with our new grandaughter, Leah.

Jordan's Band Concert

The first concert of the year was to present their Field-show performances and show off their new Uniforms!! The band came into the auditorium from the sides and back. Jordan was on the stage with the drumline. It was pretty neat. We got a nice look at their uniforms and all the new cadences they had worked so hard on. It was fun to see them up close since we are always on the sidelines at the football games. Here is some pictures of him at the concert. The Vernal Express also did a write up on the band this week so I will try and put the article on here as well. It is quite the treat as the Vernal Express never writes about them. I guess it is the Uniforms!

Hello from Ensenada!!

Garrett sent these pic's this past week so I thought that I'd share them with all of you. This is a picture of the Mexican Flag in the distance. Garrett said that it is HUGE! He said it would easily fit over the peach building in the background. The next picture is him standing in front of the bottom of the flagpole. You can tell from that picture that it has to be a pretty big flag. He said the Mexican people are very proud of their country. All the flags are really big like that.

Garrett just had his Six Month burning of his tie!! He has been out six months. Can you believe it?? Elder Castillo is holding his tie. He did say that it isn't one of his good ties. They have an "Ugly Tie Box" in the apartment that they got this ugly flower tie out of. I don't know what Garrett is holding but I think it is a can of Hair spray to fuel the fire with. All the Jordan noticed about this picture was that Garrett is wearing Adidas Soccer shoes. I just had to laugh.
Since Garrett has been out he has lost 65lbs.! I knew that was alot but until I got this picture, I didn't realize how much he lost. He said that he has made 10 new holes in his belt. His pants must look awful right now. I hope he can make it a little while longer for some new ones or until he quits losing weight!!

Garrett and his companion went to "Valle de Gradalupe" to see the vinyards. They look alot like the pic's that Margie sent home from Chile. I guess the weather is such that they grow well there. While they were there Garrett took a picture of this bull. I guess they grow well there too...for the bullfights!!

This is a picture Garrett took out their apartment window. It is a sunset on the ocean. Beautiful isn't it??Garrett lives on the second floor of their building, which gives them a better view!

Elder Buenrostro (from Mexico City) and also Garrett's companion in their funky hat with the dregs attached. I don't know what it is with the white sunglasses either but I'm sure it's just missionary fun.Garrett had to send this particular picture because we couldn't talk him into buying a sweater to take with him. He hates sweaters!! He said it was cold one morning so Elder Black let him borrow one of his. They left their apartment and within one block they took them off because they got to HOT. Go figure. I really laughed about that one.

5th Stake Organized in Vernal

Today we had Stake Conference. They organized a 5th Stake here. Elder Mayne's and Elder Butler were here from the Seventy's to make the change. All the stakes in Vernal met in their respective buildings and they broadcasted it from the Ashley Stake Center to all other buildings.The name of the new stake is "Vernal Utah Stake". Seems like that is not a novelty but actually we don't have a Vernal stake in Vernal. Adrienne is now part of that new stake as she moved into their new apartment. The stake is actually in the middle part of town. All other stakes are in the outlying areas. The only thing that affected our stake is they took Vernal 3rd Ward out of our stake and we also lost our stake building. We now are HOMELESS!! There are no more stake buildings in Vernal so they moved the stake offices into the Family History Library and we will have to beg for building space. We will probably rent the Middle School Auditorium for our Stake Conferences, but we will have to share building space till a new stake center gets built. The church owns land out by the High School next to the college so it will probably get built there. It takes two years to go through church policy so it will be awhile.
I really enjoyed Elder Mayne's talk. He talked about The True and Living Church! It comes from D&C Sec. 1:30. It is the True and Living Church because we have a living prophet!!
He talked about how many members we have in the valley that have been endowed, but out of that number we don't have that many that have current temple recommends. We have a lot of Missionary work to do!! He said," To be active is good but to be Faithful is better!" There were a lot of stories he told that I can't write here but it was a very enjoyable stake conf. I have been spiritually fed today. Love you all. Mom

Summer Activities

Because I haven't posted since May, I think that I better catch everyone up on things that I've done this summer. Here are a few pictures of some activities that have gone on. I won't post anything that others have posted so these are some things that maybe you haven't seen.

I've been involved in a quilt group going on in our Ward and I finished my first quilt for 4th of July. I'm so proud of it.

Got released from my church job as Gospel Doctrine teacher and put in Young Women again. I guess I need to learn something, because I didn't get it right the many times before. I am loving it and learning to be more compassionate and loving to the inactive girls we have. We have done some fun things this summer, since I've been in this position (Secretary). We went to Girls Camp at Heber Valley. Now this is camping. Cabins and chocolate fountains!!

We had a Moose in camp one evening that came charging in, scared us to death. She had her baby with her so I was heading for cover!! The flag is one that we signed on our hike. I went with the 1st years on their 3 mile hike which turned into a 5 miler!! Anyway we signed the flag with the temple in the middle to pledge that we would remain Virtuous and make it to the temple. The new Value that they added to the YW is Virtue, so most of the activities this year were centered on that.
We went to Idaho to finish up mom's house and clear everything out so that we can sell it. While we were there Patsy wanted to do some Geo Caching so she brought some coordinates for Wendell. We found it in a chain link fence pole,down by Simerly's grocery store. It was fun to go at night.

This year is the 100th Year of the Dinosaur Park. They had a nice program with cake and lemonade. The granddaughters of Earl Douglas who discovered the first bones wrote a book and were there to talk about their experiences of their grandfather and what they remembered about the days when he was in Vernal digging up the bones. It was very interesting.
The rest of the pictures are of different activities and events, but this is getting to long to write about them all. Jordan was in the Duchesne county parade after the Millett reunion. We took the Yw to Nine Butt Falls and had a blast getting wet. The wedding in the Timpanogas Temple of Rodney's son Michael. All the cousins that came to the temple. Baptism's for the dead with the YW and YM. Jordan's first day of school. He finally got his license and was more excited to be driving than anything. The pose....Luv it~~

Cinco De Mayo

We decided to have a Cinco De Mayo party for Garrett that is on his mission in Mexico. We had so much fun and wanted to share some pictures with you. We decorated the kitchen with all kinds of fiesta decorations.

Mother's Day!!

Mother's Day was so much fun! We went to church and got gardening gloves for a present from the Ward. How different is that? Adrienne got a smelly flower!! She is allergic to it so it is sitting in my kitchen window, as of now. Richard and Jordan fixed me dinner, I didn't have to do the work and it was delicious!! We had roast beef and potatoes and carrots. The special treat was peach cobbler for dessert!! It is sooooooooooooooooo good WARM!! YUM!! We opened presents and I got 2 glass pitchers,(the drinking kind,Cassy) a new pair of shoes and perfume from Richard and Jordan. A cute and funny card from Jordan! Also a CUTTLEBUG from the girls!! Thanks Girls!! I was so surprized! I love it. Now if I can just figure it out. The directions are short but we still can't figure how to make my brass stencils work. Back to the drawing board or I guess there will be a call to someone in order. Probably Allisha since she has one. Hope to figure it out soon. I got some dye's that came with it and we embossed a cute baby stroller. I told Adrienne that now I can make her baby announcement's for her. How fun. Oh, I forgot, Adrienne and Justin also gave me a gift certificate for flowers so now I can plant my flowerbeds. All in all I had a great Mother's day! Thanks to everyone for making my day wonderful. LOL
